New criminal laws will come into effect from 1st of July 2024
Starting from July 1, 2024, three new criminal statutes will come into effect: Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023 and Bharatiya Sakhya Adhiniyam 2023.
These statutes will supersede the criminal laws of the colonial era. Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita will take effect over the Indian Penal Code of 1860, Bharatiya Sakhya Adhiniyam will take effect over the Indian Evidence Act of 1872, and Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita will take effect over the Code of Criminal Procedure from July 1, 2024.
